Snailblazer: A Metaphysical Maze
A downloadable game for Windows
Snailblazer: A Metaphysical Maze is the first game prototype published by RK Taylor. The player controls Psil the Snail, a self-aware creature searching for leaves. More self-aware than most shelled gastropods, Psil begs the player to continue navigating through the maze to perpetuate his existence. Psil is aware of his limitations as a digitized object, drawing inspiration from Magritte's "The Treachery of Images." His desire to continue existing ad infinitum contrasts the players' goals to complete a puzzle and eventually quit the application. Therein lies the tension between human and snail.
RK Taylor used Unreal Engine 4 to create Snailblazer. Throughout this process, he scripted blueprints for the following features: player movement, camera motion, pop-up HUD text, level transition, fall detector, and UI menus.
